Hatteras Island is a barrier island, part of the Outer Banks in the state of North Carolina on the east coast of the United States. Hatteras divides the Atlantic Ocean from the Pamlico Sound, and is one of the longest islands in the United States. The island is 85.56 square kilometers (33 square miles) in size, and home to over 4,000 people! The towns of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras Village are all parts of Hatteras Island. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is one of the most visited places around the island, along with the fun adventure of being able to drive along the beach in your 4x4, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and it's the best place to go offshore fishing along the east coast! Each town has such an amazing vibe, with the most beautiful emerald green water, golden sand beaches, and incredible sunrises and sunsets I have ever witnessed. I’ve spent countless hours walking the shoreline along the ocean and sound side. From sea glass to seashells, old bottles and shipwrecks, sea life, wildlife, and of course, stunning landscapes! Hatteras is so abundant with so many beautiful things! Hatteras Island is definitely the best part of the Outer Banks area, and is a must see!!
